We learn canine behavior from our dogs immediate ancestors, the wolf.Our dogs are pack animals just as wolves are the only difference is that the domesticated dog has humans in their pack as opposed to a pack of other dogs. Since we know wolves are pack animals it is up to us humans to demonstrate discipline just as the Alpha male or pack leader of a wolf pack would.
We can assert ourselves in pack leadership by disciplining our dogs , not abusing them!! Training is key to establishing pack order and being looked upon as a leader in your dogs eyes. All dogs have natural instincts, needs and drives which we use to our advantage in order to train dogs. An untrained dog is at serious risk of injuring himself or even its owner by not responding to commands which can potentially save its life in the possibility it is in a dangerous situation.
*The primary cause of death in dogs is lack of obedience training!!*
Commands
1) Heel- Dog walks on the owners preferred side and must not sniff the ground, pull or lag behind.
2)Automatic sit- While on the heel position the dog must sit when you stop automatically.
3)Stay- While the dog is sitting next to you after the heel and the automatic sit, you are going to tell the dog to stay and as you tell him stay you touch his nose with your palm.
4) Down- the " Down" command is a very difficult command to teach a dog because it puts the dog in a submissive position, which means in this position the dog would be vulnerable to an attack.
5) Come- We use this command when we want the dog to come to us, he must come on the first command .
